Garmin Nuvi 880

Written by ImagesLab.net on Saturday, May 31, 2008

Thank god it's a Saturday, a shopping day... catch a movie day... bla bla bla.... I'm staying at home doing nothing but surfing the net. Found out a GPS device to share with you guys and it's called the Garmin Nuvi 880.

The Garmin Nuv 880 feature speech recognition (SR), preloaded maps, hands-free calling and an FM transmitter — plus real-time local weather, traffic, movie times, gas prices, stock information, local news and events.

I personally love the big screen with 4.3" inches display size. It also comes with a built in Bluetooth with speaker and microphone. What you need to do is to pair your compatible Bluetooth phone and you're set.

The "Speak command" not only tell you where and when to turn (e.g:Turn left in 500 meter) but will also listen to your command. For example, you do not have to key in the location address that you wanted to go. All you need to do is to select the "begin speaking" function, tell Nuvi "Find Address" and speak an address to start navigating. Easy? You can now fully concentrate while driving!

With preloaded City Navigator® NT street maps and millions of points of interest (POIs) such as hotels, restaurants, schools, shopping malls and more. 'Speak' a menu option or touch the color screen to enter a destination, Nuvi will take you there with 2-D or 3-D maps complete with voice directions. You may save up to 500 Waypoints/favorites and locations too.

This GPS device is not only for viewing maps or navigation, but actually comes with built in Mp3 player, JPEG picture viewer, currency converters, Garmin Games, alarm clock and more.

I personally think that the retail price of USD1,071.41 is way too expensive and is not worth the penny spent at all. I'd rather use my other phone with built in GPS functions. But of course there are more cheaper GPS devices from Garmin which you can choose from besides Nuvi. Please visit Garmin for more products.

Nokia 6600 Fold

Written by ImagesLab.net on Friday, May 30, 2008

It has been quite some time since I last saw Nokia coming out with flip phones. Lately, they announced this beautiful phone called the Nokia 6600 Fold that uses the OS Series 40.

First impression, the design looks very elegant and professional. Which also indirectly made me assume that their target market would definitely be the ladies.

What's so special about this phone? As you can see the front cover is shiny and totally black in color. Guess what... by tapping it twice, it will light up the display and thus showing the time, missed calls and messages. You may also control the alarm snooze, silence or even rejecting a call by tapping it. Which means you do not have to flip open the phone. I think this is gonna be a hit with those that find it hard to wake up in the morning when the alarm rings. Haha.. Just simply tap and it'll snooze. Cool huh?

Not only this, there is a key located just beside the sidebar of the phone and when pressed it will flip open smoothly. This two would be the Nokia 6600 Fold's main selling points.

The main display comes with 2.13” QVGA (240 x 320) OLED display with 16M colors while the secondary display comes with 1.36” (128 x 160) OLED unicolour display. This would be a dual screen flip phone from Nokia.

In terms of connectivity, it supports 3G, EDGE, GPRS and Circuit-switched data (CSD) transfer for browsing and as data modem. It comes with Bluetooth and USB 2.0 for data transfer too.

Nokia 6600 Fold is attached with a 2.0 MP camera with 8x zoom with LED flash, a secondary camera for 3G video calling and not forgetting the multi-format music player and FM radio. With the 512MB microSD card (up to 4GB), I think it's more than enough to keep audio files and images. :)

The Nokia 6600 Fold would easily fit into your handbag or snugly in your hands as the size is only 87.7 x 44 x 15.9 mm. Nokia 6600 Fold will be available in 2 colors, which are black and purple. If you are planning of getting your loved one a gift for a special occasion, I truly suggest the Nokia 6600 Fold.

Bluetrek Bizz Bluetooth headsets

Written by ImagesLab.net on Thursday, May 29, 2008

Have you ever thought of a 2 in 1 Bluetooth headset? Yes, the famous Bluetooth headset manufacturer Bluetrek just came out with their brand new Bluetooth headset and microSD storage (up to 8GB).

Just like the picture shown, all you need to do in open the front part of the headset and slot in the microSD card. It supports USB 2.0 connectivity. The best part is when you connect through the USB port, it will charge the headset directly. No need to worry about battery dying anymore.

The headset is only 10 grams. With full charge, you get 10 hours of standby and the talk time is about 6 hours.

No doubt this is a great product/design from Bluetrek, great job! Selling price is about USD80 which is approximately RM256. Not very expensive considering the 2 in 1 feature...

Samsung S2 Pebble

Written by ImagesLab.net on Wednesday, May 28, 2008

This is a device that I MUST share with you guys; The Samsung S2 Pebble! Look at the design, it's so classy (though at a certain angle, it does look like a compact powder/blusher for the ladies). Anyway, I feel that the design is way better than iPod. When I mentioned that the design is better, it doesn't necessarily mean that its feature is better than the latter. Hehe... :P

Let's forget about the comparison. We'll first look at the design. OMG!! SO DAMN COOL !! Round shapes and metallic colors! The S2 comes in shades of green, purple, red, black and white. Very sophisticated indeed, I especially adore the red colored one.

This Mp3 player comes with 1GB memory and allows user to playback MP3, WMA, and OGG files. It has a built in FM radio too. Samsung S2's playback time is roughly around 10 hours, don't expect too much other than the stunning design...

Other than S2, Samsung is offering another Mp3 player namely the Samsung S3, which offers higher capacity (2GB/4GB & 8GB), 1.8 inches LCD display, support JPEG viewer,Video player (MPEG4), Music player (MP3, WMA), FM radio and recorder. The features are much more better than the S2. But the design looks ugly to me. :P Which one do you prefer? The stunning and chic looking Samsung S2 or the S3 that has better features? You decide...

Both players will be available in June 2008. Do check out your nearest Samsung authorize dealer for the price. :)

Sony Ericsson R306 Radio

Written by ImagesLab.net on Tuesday, May 27, 2008

Would you be able to guess what is this device for? A radio? A Phone?

Yes, behold Sony Ericsson's mid range phone named the Sony Ericsson R306 Radio! By looking at the design itself, I'm sure it resembles a radio right? A radio phone.. very special indeed. But what about MP3? Hmm, we shall see next...

Band : GSM 850/1800/1900MHz or GSM 900/1800/1900MHz
Data : GPRS
Size : 90mm x 48mm x 16mm
Weight : 93g (3.3oz)
Battery : Up to 17 days standby
Talk time : Up to 9 hours
Main Display: 1.9" 65k color TFT, 128x160 pixel resolution
Sub-Display : monochrome, 96x32 pixel resolution
Camera : 1.3 megapixel
Video : Yes
Bluetooth: Yes
Memory : 5MB
Other : Speakerphone, FM/AM radio, USB mass storage, alarm clock, sound recorder, phone book, calendar

This is how the back of the phone looks like.

The front part. It's a flip phone.

This phone actually focus on the radio features FM/AM radio tuner and built in stereo loudspeakers. It comes along with TrackID which you can use whenever you want to find out a specific song title and the artist.

The specification I showed above clearly shows that this is a low-midrange phone from Sony Ericsson. Nothing to be proud of. No wifi, no good camera (only 1.3 MP), no memory card (what can you do with only 5Mb built in memory?) But, but... if you are looking for a budget phone, this is the right phone. I like the design actually.

The Sony Ericsson R306 Radio will be available in two colors; The Coffee Black and Champagne White and will be available starting Q3 2008.

Samsung F480 TouchWiz

Written by ImagesLab.net on Monday, May 26, 2008

Let's take a look at Samsung's upcoming model, the F480 TouchWiz, a compact touchscreen device that should hit the market by next month.

Just a short preview on it though. I believe Samsung is competing with the upcoming Apple iPhone with 3G. Samsung F480 comes with a 3.5G supporting high speed HSDPA date download. Screen size is just nice for a touch screen device, a 2.8" 240 x 320 pixel panel.

Samsung F480 also comes with a 5.0 Mega Pixel camera complete with auto focus and image stabilization. The multiplayer enable users to play various video and audio files. It comes with FM radio too!! If you need more space to keep images or audio files, there is a microSD slot to expand the memory.

Of course, connectivity such as bluetooth and USB 2.0 that is essential for every phone does not lack with this phone as well. Too bad it don't support WiFi and GPS, what a waste for a touch screen phone.

Anyway, this phone is only weighs 98 grams and the size is 98.4 x 55 x 11.6 mm, which I think is just nice. Samsung F480 TouchWiz is expected to hit the market somewhere in June 2008 and it's set to compete with world's renowned iPhone... or O2.... or HTC perhaps?

Kung Fu Panda

Written by ImagesLab.net on Sunday, May 25, 2008

Today's post is not about phones. C'mon it's a Sunday, you need a break and I definitely needed a good break too! Fair and square.. :)

Kung Fu Panda will be release on 5th June 2008. The first time when I look at the poster, I actually laughed. It's hilarious! Just look at the panda, round and clumsy-looking. I was just wondering how the panda's going to show off some kung fu fighting skills. Haha.. must be very entertaining. So here goes the synopsis...

Synopsis: "Kung Fu Panda" features Jack Black as Po the Panda, a lowly waiter in a noodle restaurant, who is a kung fu fanatic but whose shape doesn't exactly lend itself to kung fu fighting. In fact, Po's defining characteristic appears to be that he is the laziest of all the animals in ancient China. That's a problem because powerful enemies are at the gates, and all hopes have been pinned on a prophesy naming Po as the "Chosen One" to save the day. A group of martial arts masters are going to need a black belt in patience if they are going to turn this slacker panda into a kung fu fighter before it's too late.

Voice by: Jack Black, Angelina Jolie, Jackie Chan, David Cross, Lucy Liu, Seth Rogan, Dustin Hoffman, Ian McShane.

Nokia E Series

Written by ImagesLab.net on Saturday, May 24, 2008

I think I've never blog about Nokia E Series before. For today's post, I'll be showing pictures of four Nokia E Series phones.

Nokia E90

Nokia E65

Nokia E51

Nokia E61i

Nokia E Series is designed mainly for business people. Why? Because the E Series comes with full range of business applications and communication tools.

For example the "Mail for Exchange" allow users to access their office email wherever they are. Users can reply, forward and send attachments. Business applications like Sms spam manager, advanced call manager, and active note comes with the phone itself.

Other functions are more or less the same with those "high tech" phone these day such as the Nokia N series.

Hopefully I'll have the chance to try out these phones some day and I will blog the E Series in details. Ciao...

Samsung U900 Soul

Written by ImagesLab.net on Friday, May 23, 2008

The Samsung U900 Soul is another slide phone from Samsung. The features that manage to capture my attention is the 7.2 Mbps High Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA). OMG, did I mention 7.2Mbps? I'm using only 1Mbps at home!!!

If you love music and can't possibly live without it, this phone actually uses the ICEpower technology by Bang & Olufsen ICEpower, the same as Samsung i450 music phone. So you can always enjoy listening to music from the U900 Soul anytime, anywhere. The U900 Soul also spots a white color background for its keypad which I think looks pretty "cool" and bright! Try imagining the so-called "twin" of xenon flash, no kidding!

I'm quite impressed that it actually has a 5Mp camera, 2592 х 1944 pixels, autofocus function, image stabiliser, video(QVGA) but not quite happy with a led flash. By the way, I thought I can only see image stabiliser in DSLR? No? And the other down part would definitely be the Wifi function. Don't you think it's a big waste that such a beauty doesn't have Wifi connectivity? For me, it's a yes!

I think this phone is already available in the market as I saw a full page ad in the newspaper today. Nice design and I categorizes this phone under "fashion phone". :P

Pricing is approximately around the range of RM1,500.

iphone 3G launch date !!!

Written by ImagesLab.net on Thursday, May 22, 2008

*Apple has confirmed that the 3G iPhone will be available worldwide on June 9th, after its official unveiling at WWDC (Apple Worldwide Developers Conference). Pricing has not yet been announced.

According to Gizmondo, the 3G iPhone will no longer be available at a fixed price point at least in some countries, and its launch will also bring new sales policies, although these have not been completely specified yet.

The move is a logical step, since the iPhone has clearly set its position as the cellphone to beat for the last 12 months, and companies in the European cellphone market need to use it as an incentive to capture clients aggressively.

At the same time, Orange announced a new agreement with Apple to bring the iPhone to Orange customers in Austria, Belgium, the Dominican Republic, Egypt, Jordan, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Switzerland and Orange’s African markets later this year.

Confirmed expected iPhone coverage (besides USA and Canada):

Europe:

  • Austria - Orange, T-Mobile
  • Belgium - Orange
  • Czech Republic - Vodafone
  • France - Orange (already available)
  • Germany - T-Mobile (already available)
  • Greece - Vodafone
  • Ireland - O2 (already available)
  • Italy - Vodafone, Telecom Italia
  • Poland - Orange
  • Portugal - Orange, Vodafone
  • Romania - Orange
  • Slovakia - Orange
  • Switzerland - Orange, Swisscom
  • Turkey - Vodafone
  • UK - O2 (already available)

Other countries:

  • Africa - Orange, Vodafone
  • Australia - Vodafone, SingTel (Optus)
  • Dominican Republic - Orange
  • Egypt - Orange, Vodafone
  • India - Vodafone
  • Jordan - Orange
  • Latin America - America Movil (Claro)
  • New Zealand - Vodafone
Rumors said it will be available in Singapore, but Singapore is not in the list. I am still wondering when iPhone will be available in Malaysia. Guess all the iPhone fans out there can't do much but just wait.

Another touch screen phone by HTC. The feature which attracted me most would be the touch screen and the TouchFLO 3D finger swipe navigation. Can you imagine touch screen with 3D enable user interface? Even though this phone has yet to be released as of now, I strongly believe that HTC touch diamond will make most mobile phone lovers out there screaming "wow"!

I love the 2.8' inches beautiful large screen, the Wifi function and also the 3.2MP with auto focus... what else? The build in GPS, the operating system (Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional), this phone has got almost everything that you need. Did I just say "everything"?

For those who is still wondering what is TouchFLO 3D, it actually provides animated access to people, messaging, email, photos, music, weather and more. Which means whatever icon that you touch, it will be animated. More fun?

Oopss.... Have I forgot to mention that this phone do not have a memory card slot? It actually comes with a build-in 4G memory. I think should be sufficient eh? I also think that it's a little hard to text while driving by using a touch screen phone.

Hopefully it will be available before end of the year... Really looking forward to the HTC Touch Diamond.

Sony Ericsson G502

Written by ImagesLab.net on Monday, May 19, 2008

Sony Ericsson G502

Few weeks ago, Sony Ericsson announced their latest mobile phone G series just after the K series and W series, named the G502. The G502 is a candy bar phone and has quite a solid exterior.

The specifications:

General: 2G Network GSM 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network: HSDPA 2100

Phonebook: 1000 entries, Photocall
Card slot: Memory Stick Micro (M2)
-32 MB internal memory
Data: GPRS Class 10 (4+1/3+2 slots), 32 - 48 kbps
HSCSD: No
EDGE: Class 10, 236.8 kbps
3G: HSDPA, 3.6 Mbps
WLAN: No
Bluetooth: Yes, v2.0 with A2DP
Infrared port: No
USB: Yes, v2.0

Camera: 2 MP, 1600x1200 pixels, video

Other features:
- FM radio
- MP3/MPEG4 player
- Google Maps
- TrackID music recognition
- Picture editor/blogging
- Organiser
- Built-in handsfree
- Voice memo/dial
Battery: Standard battery, Li-Po 950 mAh (BST-33)
Stand-by: Up to 340 h
Talk time: Up to 10 h

By looking at the spec itself, I would say this is another regular phone. It has the typical Sony Ericsson features in terms of style. I would not consider buying it because of 2 reasons; it doesnt has Wifi and a good camera (solely my personal opinion). But one thing for sure, if you are looking for a budget phone, this phone might probably suit you.

The Sony Ericsson G502 will be available in shades of Champagne Black and Brilliant Hazel in selected markets from Q2 2008. I've yet to get the market price, my prediction would be around USD250-USD300. :)

And lastly, the highest traffic for the period goes to Vincent.

Samsung i550w Final Post

Finally the contest organised by Mobile World Magazine and Samsung has come to an end. The closing event will be held on May 17 evening which is, tomorrow. At the same time, they will be announcing 3 winners that will walk away with either the Samsung i450 or the i550w.

First winner will be the best blogger (no idea how they judge this). Second winner will be the one who has shown the phone to the most people and the third winner will be the one with highest traffic for the period.

If you're asking me whether I have any confidence in winning this, I can only answer you "I don't know", Haha... Anyway, I've done the calculation, I've made a total of 29 posts for the blogmob events and also the Samsung i550w. Really had fun with the phone.

Now, it's all up to the organiser to decide. I've done my best. All set to enjoy the event and dinner tomorrow @ Izzi. :)

Samsung i550w - Overall Review

Written by ImagesLab.net on Thursday, May 15, 2008

After reading back all the posts I've wrote for the Samsung i550w, I noticed that I have actually covered almost everything bout the phone. Did I miss out anything?

I would say Samsung i550w is a great phone with lots of features such as my dream Wifi and build in GPS. It also has other great features like the auto focus 3 megapixel camera. The power of Symbian S60 makes this phone even greater on a large 2.6 inches screen.

I don't want to make a long post for an overall review as you may find the full review (which includes the interface, camera, Wifi, GPS, music player... bla bla bla) on my previous post which discussed on almost every single part of the phone.

If you are my regular reader, you will notice that I always mention that there is no "perfect" phone. Every phone have got their pros and cons. I'm trying to be fair now by sharing with you the good and bad of Samsung i550w.

The pros:
- 2.6" 262K-color TFT display of QVGA resolution
- The Wi-Fi function
- Build in GPS receiver
- Trackball navigation
- MicroSD card slot (up to 4G)
- Large display screen
- 3.5mm earphone (I can plugged in to my speaker!)
- Great defaulted web browser (I don't need to install 3rd party browser)

The cons:
- No Xenon flash
- Battery life (I guess you know what I mean)
- No firmware upgrade
- detection time for GPS (sometime took up to 10 minutes to locate me)

For me, the pros of the phone are good enough to cover the cons. With Wifi and build in GPS I've got absolutely no critics on the phone at all. I just love the features so much! The Samsung i550w is priced at RM1499, which I think is very very reasonable price considering the features that comes along with it. However, I've recently come acrossed some papers publishing the price of the Samsung i550w at RM1,599 (So now I don't really know which is which).

Are you going to get one for yourself after reading all my previous posts?

What else to blog?

Written by ImagesLab.net on Wednesday, May 14, 2008

I am actually cracking my head at this moment... thinking what else I can blog about with the Samsung i550w. Which part of the phone I've yet to blog about? Anyone can give me some suggestions? Please...

Just a few more days and this event will eventually come to an end. Should I continue to make more interesting post with the phone or should I just sum up and make a conclusion?

Samsung PC studio 7

Written by ImagesLab.net on Tuesday, May 13, 2008

When you open up the Samsung i550w box, one of the accessories included would be the Samsung PC Studio 7 CD. All you need to do is to install it into your PC or laptop. When you're done, start the Samsung PC studio 7 program and plug in the USB cable and it will show something that looks like this:

To use the Samsung PC Studio 7, select "PC Studio"

As soon as PC Studio detects your phone, it will show "SGH-i550w connected via USB". You are now ready to go!

So, what can we do with the Samsung PC Studio 7?

You may backup your contacts and sms-es, install applications such as games and themes. If you are an unlimited 3G subscriber, you may also use the phone as a modem to connect to the Internet. Managing your files stored in phone memory and memory card such as renaming a file, deleting and copying would be such an easy task.

Under "contacts", you can add details for a specific person such as email, address, and photo. The best part of messages I found out, is that you can reply sms-es by using the keyboard. Cool huh?!?

In short, it's perfect for storing images and transferring music; the name says it all. You can transfer images and music from PC to phone or vice versa. You may also want to use the "create wallpaper" to create a nice wallpaper for your phone's background. Last but not least, you can try out the "play multimedia files" to play back videos which are earlier recorded into your phone.

Very simple and user friendly program designed by Samsung. Real easy to handle/use. Just a question that I wanted to raise, is there any firmware for us to upgrade in this phone?

p/s: I believe I haven't see any BlogMobber's site talked about this topic yet. :P

Samsung i550w - Games

Written by ImagesLab.net on Monday, May 12, 2008

After checking through all the topic that I've covered, I think I have not gone through the games part. How does it feel playing mobile games with the Samsung i550w?

First of all, let me introduce to you to two preinstalled games, called the Sailing Clicker and Fr.Bubble. I personally love Fr.Bubble, why? I got addicted to this game not too long ago and kept on playing almost everyday to get to the next level. As for now, I believe I'm "permanently" stuck at level 100. I've tried getting to the next level, but it's just plain hard (maybe I suck). Anyone has higher than level 100, guides please?

How to solve this?

After 2 or 3 days playing, I'm still stuck at level 100. So, I decided to install other games. Here are some of the games that I recommend.

1. Alphalt2

2. Casino

3. Metal Smash PinBall

4. All time favorite - 1943

5. Still looking for English Version - Millionaire

Any mobile game lovers here? If you are, I can send you a zip file that has more than 200 games inside. :) Till then... Enjoy!

Samsung i55ow - Tips and Tricks

Written by ImagesLab.net on Sunday, May 11, 2008

In today's entry, I will be showing some tips and tricks that you might find handy when operating a Symbian phone; one like the Samsung i550w. I believe I haven't see any of these in the other BlogMobbers site.

This is one of the most common error, whereby the error message shows "Expired Certificate". However, I'm not going into a very detailed explanation. If you want to know the cause, you might want to drop me a comment. To solve this, go to "CLOCK" and change the date to an earlier date (eg. 2008 change to 2007). After installing the application, change back the date to current date. Guaranteed to work, unless your application is not compatible with your phone! :)

Second trick, this require you to install an application called the "handy taskman". The purpose is to allow user to check the available RAM in phone and to "kill" those application running on the background. Referring to the screenshots above, you can see that there are still a few applications running on background even I'm on the main screen. So, what should I do?

After installing "handy taskman", you can access the above screen through the installation icon or you can also press the shortcut key which is the "menu" button for a few seconds. Select the unused applications and "kill it" and you instantly gain back more RAM. The more the RAM is, the faster your Samsung i550w software runs (plus smoother too). So you won't face the lagging problem like my previous Nokia N73.

Want to know more tips and tricks on Samsung i550w or Symbian? Check back more often as I'm gonna write more about it in the future. If I reveal everything now, then I'll have nothing to blog right? Haha... :P

Samsung i550w - Google Maps

Written by ImagesLab.net on Thursday, May 08, 2008

Have got nothing better to do again. So I went on exploring the Wifi features on the Samsung i550w; playing with "Google Maps".

Basically I can go everywhere I want. I meant "in" the map. Haha... Let me show you how it looks on the phone okay. (Screenies shown are enlarged for your viewing pleasure)

I see Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia etc etc...

I then zoom-in to Kuala Lumpur, saw the "smart tunnel"?

I "toured" KLCC and then went back home. :P

Then I decided to go for a "holiday", where should I start with? Hmm...

1st destination - San Carlos, Mexico

Then to Japan

Lastly stopping by China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Macau.

I had so much fun with Google Maps. Believe me, this is a MUST have application! But please take note, it is fun playing Google Maps with Wifi (because it is FREE!). However without Wifi, you'll need to pay 3G charges to your service provider, remember that ya! :P

Samsung i550w - A Guy's Phone?

When I took out the Samsung i550w to show my colleagues, friends, and family, most of them have this same opinion that it is "a guy phone". I will now prove them wrong! :p

After using the phone for about 3 weeks, I decided to pass the phone to my girlfriend to test out its features and functions so that I can gather more feedback to blog about the pros and cons of the phone. I always believe that different people have different opinion.

This is what she did to the phone. Very "girlish" indeed. :P

This is the phone before I pass to her.

Conclusion, Samsung i550w is not only suitable for guys BUT also for the ladies as well. Cheers...
