Cell phone providers have been making some serious money off of their data plans. For around $60-80 USD you can have internet wherever you have a cell phone connection, thanks to EV-DO, HSDPA, and the other 3G data signals being used today. This can get rather pricey, however, when you have a whole team that needs to use the internet simultaneously in order to get their tasks done. Hotel rates aren't any cheaper, often asking for $20 per day.
With the introduction of the data plan from cell phone providers also came the introduction of the mobile broadband router. It simply accepts the 3G modem dongle provided by your cell company (USB, expresscard, PCMCIA card, etc.) and converts the 3G signal into a typical 802.11n wifi signal. This allows you to share a single data plan with you colleagues, saving you a lot of money.
One very popular router is the Kyocera KR2. It allows people with EV-DO (probably the more popular signal) to share their internet via Wifi.
