Chinese New Year
Written by ImagesLab.net on Friday, January 18, 2008Christmas atmosphere has come to an end and it's the same for New Year's mood as well. Time really flies! It's about time for the Chinese to be geared up for the Lunar New Year which will fall on 7th February 2008 (about 3 weeks from now).
Referring to the Chinese calendar, the animal zodiac presiding this year is the "rat".
Have you send out all your warm greetings to family and friends? Still think it's too early to write those cards and fix its stamps? In fact I've already received a few greeting cards from my friends and colleagues. If you think it's too much a hassle to send your wishes through snail mail, you can always consider going green and send e-cards or sms instead.
Although sending text messages is quicker, simpler and totally effortless, at times it can appear to your recipient that your wishes are not truly sincere. Most recipients usually read the message and then hit the button for trash bin. Well... I do send wishes (but rarely) in the form of text messages though it's usually for the sake of replying to a greeting's text sent by my friends.
I don't know why but I have always preferred the old way of sending out physical cards (typical china man mind-set). It gives me the impression of being appreciated above all. Imagine the effort of the sender, spending their time to pen down their heartfelt wishes and their willingness to go all the way to the post office just to have it mailed to me. It's so touching... (Okay enough about my soft side).
Consider doing your shopping early as it's pretty congested out there on the roads and crammed at the malls. Enjoy yourself shopping for Chinese New Year!
