Nokia E66

Written by ImagesLab.net on Sunday, June 29, 2008

I guessed by now most of us can tell that the E series from Nokia are generally targeting business users. A short time ago, Nokia hit the market again with their newly announced E series; called the Nokia E66.

As you can see from the image posted above, the E66 is apparently a slide phone. It runs on Symbian S60 3rd edition which is the same OS used in most N series model.

It has a 2.4 inches QVGA display, 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus and LED flash, video calling, HSDPA data (with download speed of up to 3.6 Mbps), WiFi, microSD expandable memory (up to 8GB). Besides that, this business phone also comes with an FM radio, Bluetooth, USB and infra-red connectivity. Oops, I almost forgot to mention that the E66 is a GPS enable phone too!!

Since it is a business phone, applications like push email support (including with Microsoft Exchange), a capable web browser and a set of personal information management functions are all included in this device.

The features of this phone is more or less the same as the 6210 Navigator. The only difference is that the 6210 Navigator doesn't have the Wifi function. There's nothing much to complaint about for a business phone that has GPS, Wifi and camera all in it. The only drawback I would say is the non-touch screen panel. Don't you agree with me that it is necessary for a business phone to have a touch screen panel? It'll definitely be less time consuming when dealing with documents take for example Word or Excel files or even when checking e-mails because touch screen actually lessens the contact with the keypads and all you need to do is just point and tap way with the tip of your finger or a touch screen pen. Don't you think so?

Anyway, the Nokia E66 will be available in 2 shades namely the Grey Steel and White Steel and should be available from July 2008 onwards.

Sony Ericsson F305

Written by ImagesLab.net on Friday, June 27, 2008

There you go.. a slide phone from Sony Ericsson, the F305. This phone is more for gaming purposes as this is Sony Ericsson's first Motion Gaming-enabled phone.

Since it is a gaming phone, I would expect a larger screen size to make phone gaming more enjoyable. It was a little disappointing when I found out it only offers a QVGA resolution screen, 2 inches screen and 176 x 220 pixel display. Hmm, from what I know, most Java game runs at 240 x 320. Will there be some sort of problem? Anyway, the best part of the phone is the bluetooth function whereby you can challenge your friends to play together on some of the Java games. Nice huh?

It has a stereo speaker located at the reverse side of the phone. The fine speaker of the F305 will bring you more pleasure while playing games, listening to MP3 and FM radio. You may also transfer audio files via the USB cable.

The F305 doesn't support WLAN/Wifi and 3G, thus becomes the main disadvantages of the phone. Luckily it has a slot for expandable memory, otherwise users will be totally frustrated with the phone memory which is no more than 10MB.

Design wise, it is an average looking phone that looks simple, sporting the bright silver colored buttons. I personally don't really fancy its features and functions, because I feel that it is lacking quite a number of functions.

This phone comes in 2 Yin & Yang color which is Polar White or Mystic Black. No news about the price though. My prediction would be between the range of RM800-RM1k.

Samsung's Soul In Pink

Written by ImagesLab.net on Thursday, June 26, 2008

This is good news for ladies that are obsessed with owning everything in pink, be it clothes, shoes, accessories, handbags, laptop and even their mobile phone! Samsung recently came out with its Samsung Soul (SGH-U900 model) in pink which just started selling in the UK market.

With only 12.9mm thin, Samsung Soul is attached with a 5 megapixel camera that have functions like face detection, image stabilizer and Wide Dynamic Range.

You may want to refer my post on Samsung Soul which I blog earlier for more info regarding this Samsung model. Okay I know I may be called sissy, but somehow, I kinda like this girlish shade for this particular model. Haha!! Laugh all you want..

Sony Ericsson Z770i

Written by ImagesLab.net on Tuesday, June 24, 2008

Sony Ericsson just came out with another design of slim flip phone namely the Sony Ericsson Z770i. My first impression of the phone is "slick" and classy.

This phone is really slim, it only has 93 x 48 x 16 mm, and weighs about 91 grams. The front panel of the phone is attached with camera lens and at the center of the front panel is the monochrome outer display and a speaker below that. When the phone is flipped up, you can see an innovatively designed keypad that looks almost flat. And you'll see a 2.2 inch display of up to 262.144 colors. There's nothing special on the reverse of the phone because that's where the usual battery cover and the Sony Ericsson logo usually are.

It has a 2.0 MP camera without any flash. A very decent camera phone that can capture regular outdoor shots, I would say. However, I doubt it can take nice photos when taken indoor or at low light condition even though it has the night mode features. You may choose the white balance which is auto, daylight, cloudy, fluorescent & incandescent. Not only can you take photos with this phone, it supports video recording as well. :)

Even though this phone doesn't use the Symbian or UIQ platform for its OS, its features and functions are good enough for those who needed a normal phone. You may download games, themes, wallpapers from internet via the high speed HSPDA.

If you are an existing Sony Ericsson phone users, I can say that the menu interface of the Z770i is quite similar to those of Sony Ericsson's previous model such as the K series and W series. Functions like musicDJ, track ID, RSS reader and FM radio are included in this phone as well.

Ok, I almost forget about the connectivity. It supports 3G, GPRS, Bluetooth and USB cable connection. It has 32MB of internal memory and expandable to Memory Stick Micro (M2)up to 4GB.

It has almost all the functions for a non high-tech phone. I don't want to talk about Wifi and GPS function here. :P

Great phone with great design, I'm impress with the design actually. Really nothing to complaint about as it only cost RM1,099.

Samsung SGH-D780 Gold Plated Edition

Written by ImagesLab.net on Monday, June 23, 2008

OMG, Samsung came out with a Gold Plated Edition Phone in conjunction with the Olympic Games in August; named Samsung SGH-D780.

As far as limited editions go, the only main difference with this one is that it is plated in gold. The original version was launched in May of this year and was well received.

Here are some of the specs of Samsung D780 DuoS:

- Triband GSM 900/1800/1900 GPRS/EDGE connectivity
- Two SIM card simultaneous support
- 2.1 inches 262K color 320×240 px QVGA display
- 2 megapixel camera
- Stereo FM
- Bluetooth 2.0 A2DP
- USB 2.0
- MicroSD memory card slot
- 1200 mAh battery
- Dimensions: 115×49.6×15.7

Olympic Samsung D780 should start shipping right about the time of the opening of the Olympic Games in August. No idea how much is the price but since it is limited edition, I guess it would be expensive.

Sony Ericsson S302

Written by ImagesLab.net on Sunday, June 22, 2008

Sony Ericsson announced 2 new phones on 17th June; the Sony Ericsson S302 and Sony Ericsson F305. Today I'm going to introduce to you the Sony Ericsson S302.

This S-series (snapshot series) phone comes with cyber-shot 2 Megapixel camera. Too bad it only have LED flash, I was expecting it to come with xenon flash actually. The S302 display is a 2" inches screen with 176 x 220 pixel panel. Connectivity wise, this phone doesn't support 3G. :(

It has 20Mb of internal memory, expandable with Memory Stick Micro card, Bluetooth, built in FM radio and USB connectivity. The S302 is only 11mm thick and weighs a mere 79g, definitely a slim phone from Sony Ericsson.

By looking at its features, obviously this is a lower-midrange handset which you and me can't really expect too much from. The Sony Ericsson S302 will be available in the market from Q4 2008 onwards in two vibrant shades, i.e. Thunder Grey and Crystal Blue.

Stay tuned for
the Sony Ericsson F305.

Motorola H620 and H560 Bluetooth Headset

Written by ImagesLab.net on Thursday, June 19, 2008

Another 2 new Bluetooth Headset from Motorola; the Motorola H620 and H560 Bluetooth Headset. Both models have different design, yet, both have nearly similar features.

H620(left) H560(right)

The H620 comes with a "rapid in-car charger" as well as a "dashboard headset holder" which is more suitable for use during driving. The weight of H620 is only 11 grams and has a wireless range of up to 10 meters (approximately 33 feet). With full-charged battery, it is able to support talk-time of up to 7 hours and a stand-by time of up to 8 days.

Meanwhile the Motorola H560 weighs at 11 grams too, about the same size as the H620. It also has the wireless range of maximum 10 meters (approximately 33 feet) and it has the same talk-time and stand-by time period as the H620 too.

So what do you think? Features wise, it's almost impossible to tell apart. It's just that the H620 has the additional accessories for drivers. Design wise, I prefer the H560 as it looks more stylish with the slightly rounded edges instead of the "squarish" H620 design.

Nokia 1508

Written by ImagesLab.net on Wednesday, June 18, 2008

Nokia just announced a new phone; Nokia 1508 CDMA phone. Nokia 1508 is a small, compact phone which is I assume to fall under the low-end mobile phone category. Although the full spec has yet to be announced by Nokia, but, if you're looking at high tech phone such as touch screen, Wifi or high Megapixel camera you may want to consider skipping this post... Nah... I was just kidding!

The Nokia 1508 features a slim, lightweight candy bar design, easy key pad dialing, integrated stereo FM radio and high-speed data connectivity to the internet via cable. With the usual text messaging, a built in speaker phone, up to three minutes of voice recording time and enough memory to store 500 phone book contacts and 400 messages, the Nokia 1508 makes an ideal partner for staying in touch at play or even at work. Hmm... by looking at its features, it somewhat reminds me of Nokia 3310 (the bulky black and white phone).

The only thing plus point for this phone is that it can be connected through USB cable to surf the internet using basic laptop or PC. Yeah, I know this phone is without 3G connectivity... I really should stop criticizing!! Must always remember that every phone has its own target market. Anybody so happens to be of the same opinion as me, hands up please! :)

This phone is expected to be available in the market somewhere in the third quarter of 2008. Pricing has yet to be determined. Shall we just wait and see?

8 megapixel Sony Ericsson C905 Cyber-shot

Written by ImagesLab.net on Monday, June 16, 2008

Have you ever imagine a phone that has a 8MP camera? No? Yes, Sony Ericsson will be coming out with their ''OMG'' camera phone; the 8 megapixel Sony Ericsson C905 Cyber-shot.

The features of the camera includes auto focus, face recognition, a new feature called Smart Contrast, image stabilization, BestPic, red-eye reduction, xenon flash as well as photoflash for both photos and videos.

This phone comes with built-in GPS with further support for A-GPS, and the large camera resolution makes it possible to do prints in up to A3 sizes! Your photos will automatically rotate to landscape mode with the auto rotate feature. Not only that, if you feel like sharing the precious moment's photo with family and friends, you can use the TV-out cable and show it on TV.

C905 will be the first phone by Sony Ericsson that comes with WiFi. Other than that, it has also got the latest in Bluetooth connections, supports USB 2.0 data transfers, and can be synchronized with Exchange ActiveSync.

The Sony Ericsson C905 measures 104 x 49 x 18 (19.5) mm , and weighs a massive 136 grams. It’ll be available in Copper Gold, Ice Silver & Night Black in early Q4 2008. The battery is good for 380 hours of standby or 9 hours of talk on GSM networks, or 360 hours of standby or 4 hours of talk on 3G networks.

This phone is just awesome. With 8MP cyber-shot technology camera, Wifi, built-in GPS, this phone is truly packed with all the knockout factors and of course it makes me go WOW too! Impressive huh? Can I pre-order this phone?

Samsung F480 Tocco

Written by ImagesLab.net on Saturday, June 14, 2008

Still remember I wrote about Samsung F480 Touchwiz previously? Well, while I was browsing through the net I found out that it has actually got another name called Samsung F480 Tocco. So why is it named "tocco" ?

"Tocco" literally means touch, in Italian. A great name huh? In European countries such as the UK, this phone is called Samsung F480 Tocco while others call it Samsung F480 Touchwiz. I actually got this information from a UK mobile phone website.

I know I had blog about Samsung F480 Touchwiz before. However these are some of the info that I intentionally grabbed, just to be sure that the F480 Tocco has the same features and functions as Touchwiz.

The Samsung F480 Tocco is the latest among Samsung's lines of touchscreen mobile phones and this one clearly intents on establishing itself as a flagship model.

A fantastic 2.8" display with Haptic feedback is an ideal starting point and makes light work of displaying Samsung's revamped user interface.

The F480 is the first Samsung device to be implemented with this new full touch UI with Widgets. These Widgets are in essence a customizable homepage where the icons can be freely configured and moved around the screen, much in the same way as the Apple iPhone but rest assured that the F480 is much more than just competition for that model.

Packed in is a 5 Megapixel camera with autofocus & flash; superfast 3G HSDPA at 7.2 Mbps; class 12 EDGE; Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP for wireless headphones. With the thickness also being only 11.5mm, the Samsung F480 is a great high-end mobile phone that seemingly has everything.

After reading the specification, I can now confirm that Touchwiz and Tocco is the same phone from Samsung. Just that the model name is different for certain countries.

Apple iPhone For $199 !!

Written by ImagesLab.net on Wednesday, June 11, 2008

Say bye bye to iPhone cause we now welcome the iPhone 3G!

This morning I received a text message which I subscribe through TheStar. Breaking news!! Haha... Wanna know what?? Read on...

Apple just announced their next generation 3G iPhone for only $199 !! I was really surprise with the price; 8GB cost ($199) and 16GB ($299).

Wait a minute... The new iPhone 3G will only be up for sales in US starting July. Argh... so when will the 'old' iPhone be officially launch in Malaysia?

Here's the news I grabbed from PcWorld.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs today (9/6/2008) introduced the second-generation iPhone with new pricing and with 3G and GPS capabilities.

An 8GB iPhone 3G will sell for $199--one-third of what the 8GB iPhone sold for at launch. A 16GB model will sell for $299, and will come in white and black versions. Sales of the new handsets will begin on July 11.

Jobs made the announcements in his keynote speech kicking off this year's Apple Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco.

Apple also announced a slew of interesting applications for the iPhone, including games, news, blog tools, and Major League Baseball.

Conspicuously missing from today's announcement was any mention of how much the corresponding 3G wireless services will cost. After the event, AT&T said it will not be treating the iPhone 3G any differently than any other phone; you'll pay whatever your rate plan is, plus $30 for unlimited data use (or $45 for business users). A two-year contract will be required, as will in-store activation. AT&T Wireless remains the iPhone's exclusive provider in the United States. The iPhone 3G will be introduced in 22 countries at launch.

The iPhone 3G, as its name implies, will feature support for 3G cellular networks. The original iPhone's lack of 3G support was widely criticized when that model first launched last summer.
Apple did say that physical changes to the new iPhone include a curvier design, full plastic back, solid metal buttons, and a flush headphone jack.

GPS Capability

In his announcement of the new device, Jobs provided precious few details about the phone. And much of what he did announce was already anticipated. The biggest revelation about the new phone is its inclusion of GPS location tracking, a feature that many iPhone users insisted on for the next-gen device.

Jobs was relatively quiet on the phone's physical dimensions. He made a point of calling out the iPhone 3G's thinner edges and plastic back, but he did not mention anything about its thickness (rumors pin the 3G model as being thicker than its predecessor, in order to accommodate the 3G radio and other components).

The headphone jack is now flush with the upper edge of the phone--a huge improvement over the design of the previous version, which required a kludgy plug to connect a headphone.
Another enhancement over the first-generation iPhone is a boost to the device's battery life. In spite of its faster broadband data speeds, the device will offer up to 300 hours of standby time, up to 10 hours of 2G talk time (compared with 8 hours on the previous model), and up to 5 hours of 3G talk time.

"That's actually a very large amount of 3G talk time. We're very proud of this," said Jobs. The phone will run for 5 to 6 hours of high-speed Web browsing and 7 hours of video viewing. Music playback is good for up to 24 hours of battery life (which puts the new iPhone right alongside stand-alone iPod audio players).

Software Improvements

Many of the iPhone 3G's improvements will be found in its software tweaks, dubbed iPhone 2.0. For example, the phone will now support a slew of core features for enterprise security (including VPN and WPA wireless encryption). In addition, you can search through contacts, display iWork documents and Microsoft Office files, and save images received in e-mail to your photo library. It also offers batch delete and move support while in the e-mail app, and multilingual support.

iPhone Sales and Prognosis for the Future

According to Jobs, in its first year the iPhone has sold 6 million units. A whopping 98 percent of iPhone users browse the Web, 94 percent use e-mail, 90 percent do text messaging, and 80 percent use ten or more features. "You can't even begin to figure out how to use ten features" on other phones, Jobs said.

With its inclusion of a 3G radio and GPS, enterprise security, and broader international support, the iPhone 3G looks well positioned to build on Apple's market share, which climbed to 27 percent by the end of 2007 according to research firm IDC.

Even with many details, such as the service costs, still unknown, Apple is clearly prepared to take on Research in Motion, maker of the popular BlackBerry smart phones. RIM currently has a 35 percent share of the smart-phone market.

The initial 22 countries scheduled to go live with the iPhone 3G on July 11th are Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, UK and the US. The remaining 48 countries will get the device “later this year”.

As for our local readers, cross your fingers as we still have no word on Malaysia’s availability.

I want the brand new iPhone so badly now ! Can you hear me Steve Jobs?

HTC Touch Dual Phone

Written by ImagesLab.net on Monday, June 09, 2008

HTC built its "HTC Touch Dual" phone using their latest TouchFLO technology. This phone uses Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional software. You can easily slide up the phone with your thumb revealing its keypad. For those who are "lazy" you may also opt to touch the screen to access emails, messages, or browsing the Internet.

Here's the spec:

Network: GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900 / WCDMA 850 / 1900
Form Factor: Slide / Windows Mobile 6.1
Dimensions: 107 x 55 x 16 mm
Weight: 120 g
Navigation: Touch Screen / TouchFLO

Main Screen: 2.6-inch, 65000 colors (TFT), 240 x 320 pixel
Camera: 2.0 MP / Zoom / Landscape / Auto-Focus / Video Recorder / Video Calling

Audio
MP3 Player: MP3 / AAC / AAC+ / WMA / WAV
FM Radio: No
Speakerphone: Yes
Games: J2ME
Multimedia: Windows Media Player

SMS: Yes
EMS: Yes
MMS: Yes
Email: POP3 / IMAP4 / SMTP / Exchange / Outlook
Chat: AOL / ICQ / Windows Live / Yahoo!
Predictive Text: T9

Battery Type: 1120 mAh Li-Ion
Talk Time: Up to 6 hours
Standby Time: Up to 250 hours
Memory: 128MB (Up to 4GB microSD)

So, what's the features like?

The feature I like most would be the TouchFlo Technology in this phone which allows handling by finger-touch instead of using the old time "tiny pen" for scrolling, photo zooming and etc.

The innovative 3D touch cube interface looks great and user friendly. On the main screen/menu, Live HTC Home features time and weather display, quick launcher, and one-touch ringtone settings.

HTC Touch Dual supports 3.5G/HSDPA connectivity for faster internet browsing. What a waste for a touch screen phone that doesn't have Wifi and built in GPS function.

This phone comes with 2.0 megapixel camera for shooting photos/videos and a second camera for video calls. It also comes with several shooting mode like landscape and potrait. Thank god it has the auto focus function.

As I mentioned earlier, the HTC touch dual uses the Windows Mobile 6.1 as their platform/OS which means it comes with the Microsoft Office Mobile for working on documents and getting Outlook email for business use.

World's thinnest Bluetooth headset

Written by ImagesLab.net on Sunday, June 08, 2008

Any idea how the "world's thinnest Bluetooth headset" looks like?

This is how it looks like and it's called the Bluetrek Metal. The thickness is just 4mm and it weighs only 5.5 grams. At first I thought the battery life sucks judging from its petite size, but the battery can actually last up to 5 hours in talk mode and 7 days in standby mode. Which is the standard battery life compared with other Bluetooth headset. Impressive huh?

Here's another view for the Bluetrek Metal. It's priced at 49 Euro, which is roughly about RM240. Do you think it's worth it investing in the "world's thinnest Bluetooth headset"? I'll leave it to you to do the evaluation!

HTC Touch Pro

HTC announced the Touch Pro, a new smartphone that follows in the footsteps of the Touch Diamond and carries over a lot of the same specs. It uses the same HTC TouchFlo 3D user interface, runs Windows Mobile 6.1, and packs HSDPA 7.2Mbps and HSUPA 3G. Unlike the Diamond, the Touch Pro has a slide-out, five-row QWERTY keyboard for the messaging minded. Other stats include a 2.8-inch VGA screen, a 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus, Bluetooth 2.0+EDR, 802.11b/g Wi-Fi and GPS.

It also has a microSD 2.0 slot that can accommodate 8GB memory cards, and 16GB cards in the future. The Touch Pro has a customized version of the Opera Mobile 9.5 browser that is optimized for better browsing with your fingers. The screen will also auto-rotate when the device is turned. It will be available in a European version first--supporting 900/1800/1900 GSM/EDGE and 900/2100 HSDPA, and a North American version--bands yet to be determined--later this year. Pricing information was not made available.

LG Viewty in Hot Red

Written by ImagesLab.net on Friday, June 06, 2008

Just a little update on LG Viewty.

I remember blogging about LG Viewty few months back. First, LG actually come out with black, pink, dark silver color. Recently, LG come out with this really stunning and striking RED colored Viewty. Other than the color itself, the specification still remain the same. Have a look at the pros and cons here.

My personal opinion again; I think ladies would love this color more than guys. :) What say you?

Motorola ROKR E8

Written by ImagesLab.net on Thursday, June 05, 2008

Woot! Motorola is finally coming out with its own Music Phone named the Motorola ROKR E8 after Nokia, Sony Ericsson and Samsung.

First things first, let's start with the specification. The phone dimension is at 115x53x10.6mm and weighs approximately 100 grams. It supports Quad Band and GPRS/EDGE class 12. However, this is another phone without 3G, sigh... It has 2.0” QVGA 240x320 262K color TFT display and is using MOTOMAGX a.k.a Linux-Java as the OS platform. Frankly speaking, I really have no idea what is MOTOMAGX a.k.a Linux-Java. Anyone kind enough to enlighten me? Haha...

Other features like the 2.0 mega pixel camera, 3.5mm stereo headset jack, Bluetooth (A2DP) and USB 2.0 are included. The airplane mode allows user to play uninterrupted music even when they are high up the sky, and without the SIM card, it's an mp3 player which you can use in the plane!

Let's talk about the design. I personally think that the keypad is awesome. Motorola called it as Haptics Keypad. It gives better feel when pressing the button. When your phone is on normal mode, the keypad will show the digits with the white color backlight on. While if you're on music player, the backlight will only show the necessary keys eg: play, pause, forward and backward. In the middle of the phone, there is a fastScroll navigation wheel that allows for scrolling through songs, contact and image library with the slide of a thumb. So user friendly for a music phone.

With the music player, it includes equalizer, bass boost and 3D stereo options. You may adjust the volume to the maximum of 20. Sound quality is loud and clear enough for a music phone. It has 2GB built in memory and optional external memory microSD that supports up to 4GB. Total would be 6GB (about 2500 songs?) that's definitely more than enough for me.

There's nothing really great to talk about in terms of its other features. Besides, I only like the design of the phone (as a music phone). Yes, the physical outlook won't lie as it looks really like an Mp3 player. Hmm... So what say you?

This phone is already available in the market as of now and is retailing at RM1199.

iPod Speaker - Altec Lansing InMotion IM600

Written by ImagesLab.net on Monday, June 02, 2008

iPod users would definitely love this speaker dock with FM radio from ALtec lansing (Altec Lansing InMotion IM600). What you need to do is just put in your iPod device in the front panel(dock) and you're ready to enjoy your favorite music.

The speaker comes with built in battery that allows music playback of up to 7 hours. Even without the iPod, you can enjoy FM radio as well. Not only that, it also have the alarm clock and sleep timer features. The best part of this speaker is that it comes with a remote control.

From some of the reviews that I've read, the bass quality is superb with medium volume playback even without a subwoofer. But sound tends to break up at higher volumes. Hmm... you might want to test out the sound quality personally. :)

Retail price is fixed at RM695. Do check it out at your nearest Altec Lansing authorize dealer.
