Samsung U800

Samsung launched their new mobile phone, the Samsung U800 not long ago. Samsung U800 is a candy bar design phone. I think it has already been quite some time since Samsung last came out with a candy bar phone.

Samsung U800 is also known as “Samsung Soulb” – remember the previous Samsung Soul? Is this probably another revised version of that model? I don’t know. Anyway let’s take a look on the phone design and its features.

The Samsung U800 can be classified as a slim phone as it is only 9.9mm thick and it's elegantly coated with metallic finish. Colors to choose from includes Soul Grey, Platinum Silver, Metallic Black, Soul Pink and Amethyst Violet. I personally couldn't resist phones that comes with metallic finishes.

Samsung U800 comes with a 3-megapixel camera with LED flash. It could be better if it has at least a 5-megapixel camera with xenon flash. However, it should suffice for normal usage. In terms of connectivity, it supports HSDPA, EDGE, Bluetooth, and 3G. Not as bad as I thought. It also has a built in 1GB internal memory and microSD slot which provides sufficient space for users to store all music and pictures they love.

Feel free to treat this phone as your portable music player as there is a good music player installed in the phone. The music player allows user to display album art. You may also use the filter to choose, organize and group the music that you want to listen to by author, album, genre and composer. On top of that, there is a built-in FM radio RDS as well… cool huh?

Even though this phone is not run by Symbian, I am still amaze because you can still customize the main menu of the phone. There are 3 pre-installed themes in the phone and you can also create your own theme and customize every single element to suit your liking.

Other applications like the organizers (calendar, alarms and converter), internet browser and document viewer (MS Word, MS Excel and PDF files) are nothing really worth mentioning about as most of them are common applications that can be easily found on any phone.

Overall I still think Samsung U800 aka Samsung Soulb is a great phone to own if you are not looking for a high tech phone that comes with WiFi or GPS. The only improvement I hope to see would be an enhancement of the camera and if it's not to much to ask for, perhaps a built-in WiFi please?
